Victoria, 2019

Mixed Media and two pairs of Nike sneakers, 197 x 70 x 70 cm

Nike is a goddess in the Greek mythology who personifies victory. The roman equivalent is Victoria. Two pair worn away Nike sneakers, one in silver and one in red found their way into the cellar, because I was not ready to throw them away. The word Nike lost its original character. Even if Victory plays in both definitions an important role, most people wouldn't consider a connection with the ancient times. Commercial is ruling, overruling the word Nike. Abuse, miss word. Everyday fetishism: In order to finish the circle of existence in a healthy and environmentally friendly way, I built a last resting place for my sneakers, a place which should honor a goddess, a temple. A temple, a shrine, taken out of our daily life, raised upstairs on a higher ground, adorned with valuables, in sort of presents, heavily decorated and noble. But mirroring the experience, captured for eternity, encircled and decelerated and because of that it got transformed into an inoperability state of existence. The superstructure, an architectural corset, overgrows the sneakers and turns them into hostages. The commercial is still a problem and the solutions are still awaiting. Photos: 1 Optikum
